Mon Prime Minister Dr Aye Zan’s court hearing rescheduled due to non-appearance of witness

The court hearing of Mon State Prime Minister Dr Aye Zan, who was charged of electoral abuse of power by the military council, was postponed due to the absence of a prosecution witness, according to a source close to the court.


Dr. Aye Zan was charged with three counts of abuse of power in the election, including sections 130 (a) and 171 (f) of the Penal Code.
The cases were heard on April 26 in Mawlamyine Court, but were postponed to May 3 due to the unavailability of a witness for the accused.


The election case of Mon State Chief Minister Dr Aye Zan is being prosecuted by U Htin Kyaw, secretary of the Mawlamyine District Election Commission. The military council indicted Prime Minister Dr Aye Zan on April 4 in connection with the case.


Mon Prime Minister Dr Aye Zan has pleaded not guilty in the election case.


He is currently facing 12 allegations from the military council, including nine counts of corruption.
