According to Myanmar’s coordinating committee for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the coup junta has killed approximately 300 disabled individuals since the military takeover.
Persons with disabilities have been killed by small and heavy artillery fire during the fights, and some people with disabilities are fleeing the war and dying as a result of a lack of access to health care.
Furthermore, the military junta has killed unarmed and mentally disabled persons without justification, according to Ye Win, the secretary-2 of the Coordinating Committee for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
“Because she had no relatives, the blind old woman was left alone in the village and had to cook for herself. She was slain when the troops arrived,” he claimed.
The number of persons who have lost limbs, become blind or deaf as a result of fighting is growing on a daily basis. Disability is on the rise as a result of limited access to health care.
At the moment, there is an urgent need for medical care for those with disabilities fleeing the battle and those caught in the crossfire.
According to the 2019 by-census, people with disabilities account for 13% of the population in Myanmar.
