Mon National Conference decides to finalize Mon State Constitution within six months

Nai Wunna Man, a spokesperson for the 2022 Mon National Conference, told Than Lwin Times that at the conference, the participants have decided to finalize the Federal Union and Ramanya Mon State Constitution within six months.

A 12-member negotiation and drafting committee was also formed with Mon monks, New Mon State Party(NMSP), Mon Unity Party (MUP) and civil organizations to draft Federal Union and Ramanya Mon State Constitution.

The committee is expected to finalize the constitution within six months, after which it will be approved by an inclusive conference.

 “A federal constitution will be enacted only after a consensus is reached with all ethnic groups in Myanmar. However, the constitution of Ramanya Mon State differs because it only represents the entire Mon Nationality. The policy of Federal Union can only be decided in consultation with all ethnic groups while Ramanya constitution will be ratified within six months,” Nai Wunna Man, a spokesperson for the 2022 Mon National Conference, told Than Lwin Times.

The four-day conference was attended by the representatives of Mon monks, New Mon State Party (NMSP), the Mon Unity Party (MUP), and the civil organizations and they formed a coordinating committee to establish a United Mon Organization representing the entire Mon nationality.

The conference also called on all parties to work for the establishment of an official Mon National Day holiday in Mon State, the conference urges all Mon people not to go to offices voluntarily but to show their patriotism on that day.

The Mon National Conference was held for four days from May 2 to 5 at Nyisar venue, Mon National Education Center in Ye Chaung Phya, a NMSP-controlled area and attended by more than 250 delegates.
