According to regime sources, the coup junta is pushing for the quick establishment of community security forces in some townships of Mon State.

A meeting with army chiefs, police, and state, district, and township authorities was convened just a few days ago.

At the meeting, state-level and military personnel urged the officials to set up community security forces as soon as possible in townships where the People’s Defense Forces are active.

After the meeting, the regime encouraged the members of the militia, veterans, military supporters and auxiliary firefighters to join community security units.

Currently, the military council is seeking to form community security forces in Kyaikto, Belin, Thaton and Ye townships of Mon State at the soonest.

At the recent news conference, General Zaw Min Tun, a spokesperson for the military council, indicated that the security forces would comprise members of the police security forces as well as citizens, and that they would be provided with required equipment.

Political analysts said the implementation of the community security forces could sparked conflict among the citizens, and this is seen as a sign of the military’s weakness.
