Belin, May (27)

A military convoy was hit by landmines on Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway between Thapye Ni and Alu villages in Mon State’s Belin Twonship on the morning of May 26.

A combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 1 and the PDF attacked a convoy of five vehicles heading to Kyaikto from Bilin.

The attack damaged a military vehicle and injured at least two other military personnel, a member of Belin PDF told Than Lwin Times.

Despite military troops opening fire on neighbouring areas after the convoy attack, the KNLA was able to retreat unharmed.

Hundreds of cars and trucks were trapped on Yangon-Mawlamyine highway for nearly an hour after a military convoy was hit by landmines.

On May 26, at around 12 noon, a KNLA joint force attacked the Moppalin checkpoint in Kyaikto Township, but no casualties were reported.
