170 civilians killed in one year: Tanintharyi

170 civilians were killed within a year, June last year until now, in Tanintharyi after the military’s takeover, according the data release by the Southern Monitor.

 Civilians have been arrested, and killed in the conflicts after the military staged the coup.

Most of the civilians were arrested, tortured and killed by the junta military and its subordinates.

Among those, most of the people are from Yebyu and Thayet Chaung townships.

The junta’s firing caused the deaths of some civilians while they were traveling.

A spokesman for Southern Monitor said the data was based on civilian casualties and that the numbers could be much higher on the ground.

Across the country, more than 2,000 civilians have been killed by the atrocities of military personnel and their affiliates during the military coup, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).

The Southern Monitor is an independent group that monitors socio-economic, conflict trends, impacts of violent conflict and human rights issues in Tanintharyi Region of Myanmar.
