Residents from charred Htone Bo Lay village face huge problems with accommodation

Thaton, August (3)

The residents of Htone Bo Lay village, which was burned down by the military regime, have returned home, but they are facing problems with accommodation, the locals told Than Lwin Times.

On July 25, the regime forces clashed with the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces and torched homes of the locals.

The 69 houses in Htone Bo Lay village, which has more than 150 houses, were burnt to ashes.

Residents who returned to their homes are facing problems with accommodation because their homes were destroyed by fire and they are reluctant to go into the jungle to collect bamboo and wood for makeshift huts for security reasons.

At present, the residents who have returned to their homes are living in temporary shelters in the burned area or at their relatives’ homes.

The officials of KNU Brigade 1 Thaton District said that they are coordinating with relevant social relief groups to provide support to households whose houses were burned down.

More than 10,000 residents fled the battle in Thaton Township, the area controlled by the KNU Brigade 1, and most of the people who fled the conflict have now returned to their homes.
