36 Rohingya brought by KNU/KNLA (PC) arrested in Belin

A police officer, who did not want to be named, told Than Lwin Times that 36 Rohingya brought by KNU/KNLA(PC) forces were arrested at Shwe Than Lwin (old toll gate) of the Military Council’s Joint Checkpoint in Belin Township, Mon State.

At around 10:00 pm on September 22, the regime joint team arrested 36 Rohingya who were being carried by KNU/KNLA (PC) troops in three cars driving from Kyaikto to Belin Township.

Among the 36 Rohingya arrested are 22 men and 14 women, including three underage boys and one girl.

Currently, 36 Rohingya are being held at Belin police station for questioning.

In a police telegram received by Than Lwin Times, the Rohingyas were carried into three cars driving by two privates and one captain from the Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army-Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC).

The three drivers and five other KNU/KNLA-PC members were also arrested, and three cars were seized as evidence, it said.

The Than Lwin Times has made several calls to the KNU/KNLA-PC regarding the Rohingya carried by KNU/KNLA-PC troops, but has yet to be contacted.

The Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army-Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC) group attended the second round of peace talks invited by the Military Council from September 15 to 17.
