There were at least six battles between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces and regime forces in the Hpapun District controlled by KNU Brigade 5 in three days from September 26 to September 28, according to KNU Brigade 5.
The KNLA joint forces conducted two ambush attacks on the regime troops which invaded the area between Kalarlaw Kalow and Hpawhtee villages near Kyawkhehtar’s Kwhtede – Hpapun Kamamaung road in Hpapun District on September 27, killing five soldiers and injuring three.
Similarly, there were two clashes between the military council troops and the KNLA joint forces in Lutho Township, Hpapun District, during which one member of the military council was killed.
On September 28, KNLA Brigade 5 raided the junta’s Khawboke outpost in Butho Township, causing two soldiers to die.
Eight military council personnel were killed during the three-day clashes in Hpapun District while the KNLA Brigade 5 was not harmed, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, the military council’s BGF Battalion No. (1014) forces have issued a notice prohibiting locals from using the land and waterways along the Hpapun-Kamaung Road between Hpapun and Kadaingti and threaten to confiscate cars, motorcycles, and boats if not follow the rules.
In Hpapun District, the military council and BGF troops are committing human rights violations every day, so the KNLA is fighting with the military council to protect the people, the KNU Brigade 5 said in the statement.
