PPST seeking to hold a political dialogue involving all EAOs

Yangon, October (30)

The Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) told Than Lwin Times that they are trying to hold a political dialogue involving all ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) before the end of this year.

The PPST said that it is planning to hold a plenary political discussion in which all the ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) that signed Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and other EAOs that haven’t not signed NCA.

PPST spokesperson Col. Saw Kyaw Nyunt said that although the PPST had planned to hold this political dialogue, it was a meeting led by everyone’s agreement.

Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt said that they are currently trying to hold a political dialogue by looking at the ability of each EAO to work in their respective sectors and through a personal approach.

Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) Secretary 1, Khu Dae Nia said he agreed that there is a need to create an environment where all ethnic armed organizations can meet and discuss, but it cannot be done with the leadership of PPST.

The PPST announced on October 28 that it will cooperate with the international community to resolve political crisis, protect civilians and receive humanitarian assistance in accordance with the practical needs of Myanmar’s politics.

But after the military coup, the Karen National Union (KNU), Chin National Front (CNF), Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS) have reduced their participation in the PPST group.

On the other hand, military leader, General Min Aung Hlaing’s peace talks were attended twice by seven NCA-signatories and three non-NCA-signatories.

Currently, the military council is fighting with some NCA-signatories, non-NCA signatories, and as well as PDFs across the country.
