On November 1, the Progressive Karenni People Force (PKPF) said that 90 displaced people had died in Kayah State, where fighting is raging, as a result of a lack of medicine and access to decent healthcare.
According to the PKPF, 97 people who fled the conflict were killed from February 1, 2021, when the military took power, to October 31 this year.
Among them, 90 people who escaped the fighting were killed as a result of a lack of access to adequate medical care, while the remaining seven died as a result of junta airstrikes and heavy artillery fire.
People suffering from seasonal flu and dysentery and those with underlying health conditions were killed due to a lack of medicine and access to medical care.
Dr. Ye Zaw, a CDM doctor who provides medical treatment in the refugee camps in Kayah State, told Than Lwin Times that the evacuees should not be dying due to a shortage of funds to purchase medicine and restrictions placed by the military council on the purchase of medicine.
The regime troops search and inspect the drugs purchased from the cities of Kayah State at the entrance to the city, and if found, they confiscate them.
After the military coup, nearly 200,000 people fled the fighting between the military forces and PDFs, seeking refuge in nearby forests and camps.
