EAOs’ plenary meeting is just at beginning stage: PPST

Yangon, December (6)

The plenary meeting, which includes all ethnic armed organizations, to resolve the political crisis is in its early stages, said the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST).

Before the end of 2022, the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) hopes to hold a political dialogue with all non-signatory EAOs, including ethnic armed organizations that have signed the ceasefire.

The EAOs in the PPST are interacting with other EAOs for the multifaceted meeting, according to PPST spokesperson Col. Saw Kyaw Nyunt.

Additionally, he stated that the EAOs will work together, either individually or collectively, to create a joint ownership model that incorporates all of them, and that they will do it at a time and location that is convenient for everyone.

It is still too early for the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) to provide detailed information on each EAO’s response, according to him.

On the other hand, seven NCA-signatories and non-NCA signatories attended the peace talks held by military leader General Min Aung Hlaing twice.

After the resurgence of fighting in Rakhine, the Arakan Army (AA) and the Military Council agreed to a cease-fire without signing an agreement on November 26, mediated by Mr. Yohei Sasakawa.

The Military Council Army, on the other hand, is currently fighting with the People’s Defense Force (PDF), including both NCA signatories and non-NCA signatories.

In the 22 months following the military takeover, there have been more than 7,800 armed clashes, more than 4,500 of which have involved the Military Council and EAOs, according to a report from ISP-Myanmar published on November 22.
