More than 4,000 people fleeing junta’s artillery shelling in Kyaikto

More than 4,000 residents are fleeing due to the continuous firing of mortar shells by the regime troops in Thaton District of the Kawthoolei area under the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 1 .

Despite the lack of battles, the Military Council’s Theinzayat Artillery has been firing heavy weapons into Kyaukphyar and Zeepyaung village tracts since December 2.

At least 7 local homes were damaged due to the artillery shells fired by the junta army.

At the moment, over 4,000 local residents are fleeing to relatives’ homes and relief camps.

The regime forces have launched an offensive into Pyinkadoe village tract since December 3, with artillery unit firing mortar shells into the villages.

The local people are being physically and psychologically threatened amid the shootings, and they are facing many difficulties in running their businesses and making a living, the KNU reported.
