Mawlamyine, December (16)

The military council secretly instructed subordinate departments in the first week of December to take action against CDM staff who did not repay the COVID-19 loan in Mon State, non-CDMers told Than Lwin Times.

According to the military council’s directives, the CDM staff must pay back the loans; otherwise, they risk facing legal action for inappropriate of government funds.

In order to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the NLD administration provided civil servants with a loan worth two salaries at no interest.

The CDM staff who have failed to repay the COVID loans have been listed, and action may be taken against them in the near future, a non-CDMer said.

A CDM employee said that the military council forced the repayment of the COVID relief fund, but they will not repay because military regime is not a government elected by the people, and now the CDM staff are struggling at the moment.

The CDM staff are facing various difficulties to continue to survive due to being fired from their jobs after the military coup, evicted from their apartments, a lack of income, and a lack of employment opportunities.

The military council frequently looks for, detains, and threatens CDM staff who are in a tough situation.

In Myanmar, there are more than 400,000 civil servants who participated in the non-violent Civil Disobedient Movement (CDM) against the military coup.
