Launglon, January (15)

The junta troops left the outpost in Thakyattaw village in Tanintharyi Region’s Launglon Township, the locals told Than Lwin Times.

More than 20 additional forces arrived at the police outpost stationed with around 15 soldiers and policemen on the morning of January 13, and they all left the camp on the morning of January 14.

Before leaving the police outpost, they destroyed bunkers and tents in the camp and covered the signboard with white paint, residents said.

According to a Launglon PDF official, junta troops may have left the police outpost because they are worried about being raided or because the location is not militarily important.

In addition, the PDF warned people not to do anything curious because the military council may have planted mines inside the camp.

Local residents speculated that the desertion of the regime forces from the Thakyattaw police outpost may have joined the other camp in Kyauk Ni Maw village.

On January 6, two junta troops from Thakyattaw outpost were shot at while coming to buy palm juice at a shop in the village, killing one and injuring the other.

The Thakyattawl police station is the first one to have been abandoned in Launglon Township in two years following the coup.
