Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program verifies fake news and misinformation about revolution events spread on social

media after the military takeover.

Today, the news spread on social media by military lobbyists that “Kawlin PDF comrade, Ma Su Su Yee died when a mine hidden within a motorbike box exploded,” will be verified.

This content was disseminated via the Telegram accounts of Hmine Wai and Kyaw Swar on January 9, which constantly favor the military and disseminates misinformation.

The report was circulated with the image of Ma Su Su Yee adding that “PDF claims that the explosion of a mine in a motorcycle box that killed a person was a suicide bombing. Spies reported that the NUG had instructed its men to use the deaf mute as needed”.

The Than Lwin Times looked into the post and found it to be misinformation.

In fact, Kawlin Revolution (KR-Teams) reported that on 9 am, January 7, two female comrades on a motorcycle carrying a landmine confronted soldiers marching from Kyokone/Wayonkhone village towards Min Tae Gyi village and the two comrades drove the motorcycle into the front of the military column.

Unexpectedly, when the soldiers asked them to stop , and checked, the comrades detonated the mine with a remote control and attacked the soldiers to death, the Kawlin Revolution said.

“When Ma Su Su Yee and his companion were riding a motorcycle, the soldiers stopped them. Knowing they couldn’t escape, they killed themselves and detonated the mine. The mine did not exploded while they were riding a motorcycle,” Myanmar Now reported, quoting an eyewitness.
