Dawei-Htee Khee road closed indefinitely

Dawei, January (24)

Both the military council and local resistance force closed the Dawei-Htee Khee road in Tanitharyi’s Kdawei indefinitely, the locals told Than Lwin Times.

On January 22, the Spring Guerrilla Force and Kawthoolei Army’s Sakasot Division released a joint statement saying that they would not be responsible for the consequences if the people did not follow the warning.

Similarly, on January 23, the military council informed the residents that the Dawei-Htee Khee road was closed.

The information officer of the Spring Guerrilla Force stated that they made the decision to close the road out of concern for the safety of the people as several junta soldiers are entering the territory under the cover of civilians and transporting weapons through the Dawei- Htee Khee road.

However, the military council did not officially release the statement explaining why the Dawei-Htee Khee road was banned.

According to locals, restricting traffic from using the Dawei-Htee Khee road could make it more difficult for health issues.

The battle could break out at any moment amidst the heightened tension due to the military council’s presence in some portions of the Dawei- Htee Khee road and the People’s Defense Forces’ control over other areas.

After the military coup, both sides blocked the Dawei-Htee Khee road, with at least 15 clashes resulting in deaths on both sides.
