Interrogative officer, sergeant killed on Yangon-Mandalay highway

Taungoo, 24 January

Officer in-charge at the junta interrogation center in Yangon and his soldier were killed by local resistance forces on 22 January.

Major Soe Htut and his sergeant Myint Aung were shot dead en route from Yangon to Mandalay during the joint mission of Company 3 and 6 under Division 3501 of People Defence Forces in Taungoo District, according to Bago Region PDF.

Both of them were from the junta’s Interrogation Center near North Point-Ocean Center at  Nine and Half Mile on Pyae Road in Yangon. The center is notorious for torturing democracy activists after their arrest for investigation.

The assassination took place after a tip-off from Yangon UG Association (YUA) to the local resistance groups.

The military officer and his sergeant fought back as their car was stopped on the way.  However, they were killed on the spot. Their two 9MM pistols, 12 bullets, driving licence and the document  were seized from them. The car was also set fire there, the report of Bago Region PDF said.

A man and a women who accompanied them tried to grab the weapons of PDF and run away, and that they were also killed. No one from resistance forces was injured in the mission.
