KNU Chairman calls for people to strive until the end for establishment of Federal Union

Mawlamyien, February (1)

The chairman of the Karen National Union (KNU) urged that efforts should be made to build a Federal Democratic Union and to achieve justice, equality, and self-determination for the entire people, including the Karen people.

It is mentioned in the speech delivered by Saw Mutu Say Poe, the chairman of the Karen National Union (KNU), on January 31 in honor of the 74th annual Karen Resistance Day.

The KNU Chairman said that, all must work together with other ethnic groups and revolutionary forces who are fighting against the military dictatorship and the characteristics of the dictatorship in order to strengthen efforts and succeed.

“We must establish a great Federal Democratic Union together in order to live peacefully and coexist in one country,” the chairman added, adding that “depending on the evolving political situation, we work together with other ethnic groups to strengthen more power and achieve their goals with political awareness.”

According to the statement, “we must build a great Federal Democratic Union that can guarantee the equal rights and personal freedoms of individuals, as well as the freedoms and rights of every race and force,” and these rights must be adopted in the country’s constitution.

The Karen National Union (KNU) has been collaborating with the people to oppose the military council during the revolution, and it is the ethnic armed group that has fought fiercely with the regime forces in the KNU’s Kawthoolei-administered areas.
