Military leader reports at National Defence and Security Council meeting that country is not in a normal situation

The military leader reported that at the National Defense and Security Council meeting of the military council that Myanmar is not in a normal situation.

On January 31, after two years of the coup, the National Defense and Security Council meeting was held by the military council.

 Military leader General Min Aung Hlaing reported to Acting President U Myint Swe that the current situation in Myanmar is not in a normal situation, the military reported.

After discussing the military leader’s presentation at the National Defense and Security Council meeting, the junta leader said further actions will be announced on February 1.

According to Article 425 of the 2008 Constitution, if the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services is unable to complete the duties assigned to him, the state of emergency can be extended twice, usually for up to six months at a time, if he submits a request.

Veteran politician U Pe Than pointed out that the military leader’s statement that the country is not in a normal situation could be a scenario where the military group will continue to retain power or continue to grip power.

The military leader reported that the country is not in a normal situation as the CRPH, NUG and PDF continue to kill innocent people, bomb public places, carry out armed intimidation and coercion, and attempt to seize state power through insurgency and violence.

Present at the National Defense and Security Council meeting were Acting President U Myint Swe, Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw U Ti Khun Myat, Commander in Chief of the Defence Services General Min Aung Hlaing, and junta-appointed Union Ministers.

However, the statement stated that Vice President U Henry Van Thio was unable to attend the meeting due to his health condition.
