Junta may step up air operations

Mawlamyine, February (24)

The junta, which is facing a shrinking military power, may increase its air operations in 2023, according to the CDMers from the air force.

The military council used various military tactics to crack down on the Spring Revolution, but it was still unsuccessful more than two years after seizing power.

The military council, which had no advantage in ground battles and was gradually relinquishing territory, was preparing to launch several offensive with fighter jets just like other countries to eliminate the revolutionary forces.

The military council has been using combat aircraft since 2021, and it is now making an effort to conduct special air operations in 2023.

The regime forces are conducting intensive training using SU-30 fighter jets purchased from Russia and FTC 2000G fighter jets made in China, according to CDM Sergeant Zeaya.

At the same time as the junta troops received flight training, they started aerial attacks in Kachin, Kayah, Karen, and Chin states and Sagaing region, from the second week of February.

Currently, the main aircraft used by the junta to crack down on the Spring Revolution are the SU-30, MIG-29, JF-17 Thunder, and Yak-130.

According to aviation experts, SU-30 and MIG-29 fighters can fly for at least four to five hours in combat, and it only took more than one hour to fly from Hmawbi to Kachin State, and they could conduct aerial bombing day or night, regardless of the weather.

According to military sources, the regime forces are planning to bomb the outposts of the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) and the Karenni Army (KA) in Kayah (Karenni) state as a special operation.

A spokesman for the Karenni Nationalities Progressive Party (KNPP), an ethnic armed organization, said that the military group has been using more reconnaissance aircraft in Kayah State since the beginning of this year.

On the other hand, the military council is preparing to launch attacks on the headquarters and military bases of the Chin National Army/Chinland Defense Force (CNA-CDF) in Chin State, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in Kachin State, and the Karen National Union (KNU) in Karen State as part of special operations.

The military council mainly relies on air forces in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Hmawbi, Pathein, Magwawy, Tadar-U, Myitkyina and Meikhtila for air operations.

Last year, the military council carried out airstrikes on communities in Konthar village in Shan State’s Namsan Township, Kachin State’s Anangpa village in Phakant Township, Sagaing Region’s Latyatkone village, Karen State and Kayah State, resulting in mass civilian deaths.

According to the National Unity Government’s (NUG) statement, the military council carried out at least 650 airstrikes in the two years since the military coup.
