Real vs. Fake News

Mingalabar! Welcome to Than Lwin Times’ Real vs. Fake News program.

This program verifies fake news and misinformation about revolution events spread on social media after the military takeover.

Today, we will confirm a fake statement with a fake seal allegedly issued by the National League for Democracy’s Central Working Committee.

This content was disseminated via the junta-proxy Telegram account of Bo Setkya on March 6.

The military council’s lobbies are spreading propaganda online that the National League for Democracy (NLD)’s Central Executive Committee has issued an announcement that six people, including NLD patron U Tin Oo, have been expelled from the party, along with the title: “Will Daw Su be the next person to be expelled from the party?”

The Than Lwin Times looked into the post and found it to be misinformation.

In fact, the National League for Democracy (NLD) announced on March 3, 2023, that U Phyo Min Thein (Central Executive Member) and Central Committee members Daw Sanda Min, U Toe Lwin, and U Win Myint Aung were expelled from the party based on strong evidence that they misused the name of the party and obeyed the will of the military dictators.

No other announcements have been made since then.
