According to junta-run newspaper, from February 1 to March 15, 26 political parties have reportedly applied for party registration and establishment for the election to be held by the junta.
Some political parties have hurriedly applied to the junta’s Union Election Commission (UEC) for the right to establish and register as parties these days, and the deadline for party registration is only 10 days away.
According to Section 25 of the Political Parties Registration Law, the Rakhine State National United Party, the People’s Pioneer Party and the Mon Unity Party, which want to continue as political parties, registered on March 15, according to the junta’s propaganda newspaper.
The Kha Mee National Development Party and the United Nationalities Democracy Party, which want to remain political parties, applied for registration on March 14.
So far, there are six parties that will organize for the entire union and 20 parties that will organize just within a region or state.
On March 16, the military council warned that parties should apply for the right to establish and register as a party by March 28, and that any party that does not apply within the specified time will automatically be invalidated by law.
The National Unity Government (NUG) announced on March 15 that it will take action against political parties that register with the military council for any reason, but no details have been released yet.
