Nnearly 1.8 million people have been internally displaced as a result of conflict and insecurity, according to a statement issued by the United Nations Humanitarian Coordination Office (UNOCHA) Myanmar on April 7.
Since February 2021, 1.4 million people have been displaced due to clashes and insecurity, while the remaining 0.4 million have been internally displaced due to conflict prior to February 2021.
The statement claimed that although there are still ongoing armed conflicts in multiple states and regions throughout Myanmar, the movement of people and flow of goods are becoming increasingly hampered.
There have been reports of airstrikes in Hpakant Township in Kachin State, explosions in Moe Nyin Township, military raids in Hpakant, Shwe Ku, and Sumprabum Townships, and the arrests and interrogations of civilians.
These conditions have forced more than 1,300 residents from most villages in Shwe Ku Township to flee their homes since early March and to live in 10 temporary camps and forests, the statement said.
The UNOCHA Myanmar has reported that it is assisting those who have fled their homes and those in need of humanitarian assistance by providing food, shelter, and basic necessities.
