The number of civilian deaths has reached 60 due to arrests, killings, and shootings by the junta army in Mon State since the coup, according to the report of AAPP, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners.
The AAPP reported on May 26 that 60 people from Mon State were among the almost 3,600 civilians who have died nationwide over the past two years since the military takeover.
Civilians have been shot and killed while peacefully protesting, tortured and killed in detention, shot dead on the road, and killed with junta heavy weapons in villages.
The biggest number of civilian deaths was recorded in Sagaing Region with 1,584, followed by Tanintharyi Region with 228 and 131 in Karen State, which is adjacent to Mon State.
The AAPP said the civilian death toll was collected as far as it could reach, and the figure on the ground could be much higher.
More than 22,000 people were arrested From February 1, 2021, when the military seized power in a coup, to May 25, 2021, more than 6,000 of them were sentenced to prison terms, according to AAPP.
