Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Thailand Don Pramudwinai said that he met with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in Nay Pyi Taw on 9 July while she is serving over 30 years of imprisonment.
Spokesperson of Myanmar military junta Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun confirmed this news on 13 July, but he said that he has no idea on the details of discussion.
This interview with Spokesperson of President’s Office of National Unity Government U Kyaw Zaw is about their view on the military’s tactic for this meeting, and the future plan of NUG for the revolution.
TLT: What is your view on the military’s arrangement in the meeting between Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Thai foreign minister?
U Kyaw Zaw: Thai foreign affairs minister said to ASEAN Foreign Minister’s Meeting that he visited Daw Aung San San Suu Kyi. It is the deceit of military council and an attempt to political assassination. The meeting was disclosed by Thai foreign minister himself. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi could not respond to this news. It was question whether they met and they discussed. We cannot get evidence for this, except the announcement of military council and Thai foreign minister’s statement.
If Thai foreign minister has genuine desire to help in solving Myanmar crisis, he tried for the release of all political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, without falling into the trap of Myanmar military. He did not say that he spoke out for the release of political prisoners. I have no idea whether he did it. But I don’t think so. Actually, either the chairperson of ASEAN or a special representative should meet with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. We do not see such appropriate efforts.
TLT: What is the remark of NUG on the military’s permission for this meeting?
U Kyaw Zaw: The military used the name of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi for their dirty trick in politics. Everybody has understood that the military deceitfully used the name of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Their attempt totally failed, and it was very funny. Their zero dignity has nosedived further.
TLT: If the military releases Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and used her in political dialogue for their interest, what will the NUG continue in the revolution?
U Kyaw Zaw: We have learnt that she talked to her political partners that she will stand together with the people, and she praised the struggle of youth. It is her steadfast policy. And that she will support the revolution. Everybody can imagine her stance between the terrorists and the revolutionists.
So, we believe in Spring Revolution of the people, while the military council will continue to follow dirty politics. They might release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and U Win Myint. They would be kept in house arrest. They would organize fake political dialogue with the signatories of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement for political interest. However, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi remains faithful to people and the country. I believe she will not be against the will of people. The military will not succeed in political trick if they exploit Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. People will not accept dirty politics of the military.
TLT: What is your concluding remark on the recent works of military council?
U Kyaw Zaw: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi have told that she will make political decision with discussions of CEC members of her party, and she will stand together with the people. CEC have already announced their policy. So, we have doubt. People’s revolution is not just an armed struggle, but it involves politics, economy, diplomatic relations. Nothing can disturb the Spring Revolution.
People have known the deceit of military council. They never believe the military council. If Daw Aung Sann Suu Kyi was released, she could realize the current situation and she will stand with people.
