At least 40 houses were destroyed by regime troops who raided Aye Ka Ni village in Tanintharyi Region’s Yebyu Township, locals and resistance forces told Than Lwin Times.
On 14 August, when a junta unit of more than 100 troops advanced into Aye Ka Ni village, a clash broke out with the allied resistance forces.
The junta troops set fire to Aye Ka Ni village, destroying at least 40 buildings, and the extent of the destruction might get worse as some more smoke billowed from the village, according to locals.
As regime forces launch an offensive, almost 20,000 local residents from eight villages, including Aye Ka Ni and Wa Zwan Taw, have fled to safety.
On 15 August, the junta army approached the displaced camp and arrested at least five locals, while junta shooting injured a civilian and a monk.
Two PDF comrades suffered injuries in the battle that broke out the day before yesterday, and regime forces may have been injured or killed, but the precise number is still being investigated, according to a spokesperson for the resistance group in Yebyu Township.
As the fighting could intensify amid the junta’s invasion, Yebyu’s People Defense Force warned locals to flee to safe areas as soon as possible and to follow the warnings.
