The 76th Mon Revolution Day, which falls on 31 August, will be held at the Mon Martyrs’ Hill in Byaing Hna Kaung Win Sein Taw Ya, Mudon Township, Mon State, according to organizing committee.
The Mon Revolution Day event was held online following the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic and the military coup, and it is set to be held this year at the Mon Martyrs’ Hill in the compound of Win Sein Taw Ya monastery.
The organizing committee for Mon Revolution Day announced that the new generation will honor the leaders who sacrificed their lives and fought for liberation from racist tyranny while preserving the blossoms of the revolution and struggling until it succeeds.
The slogan of this year’s Mon Revolution Day is, “Racial rights will emerge only through a powerful revolution”. A banner with pictures of martyred leaders has been erected in front of the entrance to Win Sein Taw Ya monastery.
A futsal tournament is being held these days in the Japan Yedwin village in the Three Pagodas area, including Mawlamyine city and Nyi Sar Camp, the headquarters of the New Mon State Party, to commemorate Mon Revolution Day.
Mon Revolution Day was originated by modern Mon young people during the Anti-Fascist People’s Freedom administration following independence in 1948, when the Mon people took guns from the police station in Zarthapyin village, Karen State, in order to shape their own destiny.
As a result, the full moon day of Wagaung has been designated as Mon Revolution Day, in honor of the Mon armed revolution that began in Zarthapyin village.
Mon Revolution Day is also held in districts controlled by the New Mon State Party (NMSP), a Mon ethnic armed organization, such as Thatthon, Mawlamyine, Dawei, the Three Pagodas Area, and NMSP Headquarters.
