Thaton, 12 November
Two civilians were killed and two others were injured as junta army fired artillery shells into Painnetaw village in Mon state’s Thaton Township, locals confirmed to Than Lwin Times.
The drone force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) launched an attack on military outpost stationed at Painnetaw village around 3 a.m. on 10 November.
The military council returned fire with at least three mortar shells, which exploded inside the village.
According to locals, the explosion killed 75-year-old U Htay Lu of Pinnataw Village on the spot, and 46-year-old U Soe Win Naing was seriously injured and died at Theinseik Hospital.
In addition, 72-year-old Daw Kaw Naw and 32-year-old Saw Thet Naing were injured by shrapnel in their arms, legs, and thighs and are being treated at the Thaton District Public Hospital.
Last year, the military council’s Pinnyataw outpost warned through village elders that if the joint force of the KNLA attacked their camp, they would fire heavy weapons into the village.
The number of soldiers killed in the attack on Pinnyataw camp is still unknown, and attempts by Than Lwin Times to contact officials from KNU Brigade 1 for comment went unanswered.
According to KNU-Thaton District, more than 30 local civilians have been killed and nearly 100 injured in landmine explosions and artillery fire in Thaton since the coup.
