Mon People’s Defense Force to launch more serious attack on Southern Command

Mawlamyine, 6 December

More severe attacks will be carried out on the military council’s Southern Command, which is based in Mawlamyine, Mon State, officials of Mon People’s Defense Force told Than Lwin Times.

On December 4, at around 2:00 p.m., the Southern Command in the Rakhine Hill neighborhood of Mawlamyine , which is equipped with multiple anti-drone systems, was attacked by the joint Revolutionary Forces with a drone for the second time this month.

One of the artillery shells fell into the heliport near the residence of the Regional Command and exploded. Than Lwin Times has not yet been able to independently confirm the details of the casualties.

The Southern Command was attacked by drone at around 9:30 p.m. on December 1, by a joint team of Shar Htoo Waw Techincal Force (Alpha Bats), Mon People’s Defense Forces, and the Karen National Defence Organisation (KNDO) Battalion 6.

Ko Saw Htoo Aung, an official of the Mon PDF, said that they intend to use all means to carry out serious attacks on the Southern Command, and urge the people to exercise caution.

The Southern Command is a headquarters of the military council that is mainly responsible for the defense, security and operational issues of Mon State and Karen State and responsible for the airstrikes in the ongoing Kawkayeik and Kyainseikkyi battles.

As the Southern Command is under frequent attacks, the military council’s Mudon strategy is firing heavy weapons day and night into the villages of Kyaikmaraw Township, raising concerns among local residents.

Currently, the military council has increased security in Kyaikmaraw, Mudon and Mawlamyaing,  which have access to the Southern Command, and is also blocking and conducting inspections at the entrances and exits of the town, according to local residents.
