Junta shelling kills monk in Kawkayeik

Kawkayeik, 15 December

A monk was killed by an explosion of artillery shell in Karen State’s Kawkayeik Township, said locals and resistance forces.

The KNLA joint forces have launched an attack on military bases in Kawkayeik since 1 December, which continued until 14 December.

The relentless shelling from the artillery unit of Military Operation Command 12 hit Myodaw OO monastery in No.2 Ward of Kawkayeik around 10 a.m. on December 13.

The blast killed a monk and injured two other monks, reported the White Tiger Column.

The junta army’s targeted attacks on civilians in Kawkayeik forced nearly all residents in town to flee their homes, said locals.

The White Dragon Column reported that they occupied some junta outposts in two-week battle in Kawkayeik and took control of Asian road, Thai-Myanmar trade route.
