Five junta troops including  captain surrender with weapons to KNU 

 Dooplaya, 24 December

Five junta soldiers including a captain from the light infantry battalion based in Paung township, as they have reportedly felt depressed mentally and physically in battles.

They joined the 6th Brigade of the KNU with weapons and ammunition, according to the announcement of KNU’s News and information, Dooplaya district on 21 December.

As battles broke out all over the 6th Brigade territory in Dooplaya district between the KNLA joint forces and junta forces, thousands of residents fleeing the war and the junta forces were also declining in morale due to the lack of weaponry, according to the statement.

 The junta troops who have been stationed in the Dooplaya district for many years, have defied the above orders and joined the KNU and KNLA in large numbers, according to the statement.

 Captain Aung Myo Win, Private Aung Ko Min, medic Private Aung Myo Win of 102th light infantry battalion under the junta’s 44th Division, and Private Saw Pe Htoo and Private Kaung Set Htun from the BGF 1022th Battalion, total of five soldiers joined the 6th Brigade of KNU’s security column with weapons and ammunition on 15 and 17 December.

They brought one hand of MA-5, one box of 9 mm ammunition,  10 bullets, two hands of MA-3; two ammunition boxes, ninety five 5.56 cartridges,one hand of M-4 ; seven ammunition box two Grenades, one hand of M-4 Carbine, one ammunition box are also seized with them, according to the statement.  

 The surrendered junta troops have received assistance and support from the officials of KNU’s 6th Brigade, according to the statement.

 Any junta soldiers are urged to desert their army and are invited to join the KNU as well as KNLA and the warm embrace of the public, according to the statement.

The surrendered soldiers  will be supported to sustain their lives and will be awarded as the market value for their weapons, according to the officials of the 6th Brigade.
