Mawlamyine, July (21)
The water had receded in flood-hit Mawlamyine, Mon State, by the morning of July 20, locals and rescue teams told Than Lwin Times.
On July 18, a heavy downpour caused flooding in low-lying neighborhoods, including Thiri Mingalar, Thiri Myaing, and Shwe Pyi Aye in Mawlamyine.
More than 1,000 flood-affected people who had to be urgently evacuated to relief camps returned to their homes yesterday evening.
A one-and-a-half-year old child and two 13-year-old children drowned in the Mawlamyine flood.
In addition, on July 19, a brick wall of a house collapsed in Mawlamyine’s Nyaung Pin Seik neighborhood after heavy rains, injuring a man and a woman.
Mawlamyine has received about 27 inches of rainfall, setting the highest record in 70 years, according to the Meteorological Department.
