Nay Pyi Taw, 19 October
NCA-signatory ethnic armed organizations coordinated with the military council to provide humanitarian assistance, Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt, the spokesperson for the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST), told Than Lwin Times.
The PPST said that in the event that the NCA cannot be implemented, there has been a lot done by individual groups as far as humanitarian assistance is concerned in relation to the protection of civilians, which is one of the three essences of the NCA.
Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt said that they must coordinate with the military council to deliver the support of the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Center) and the Nippon Foundation to the relevant people in their control areas.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) reported on October 12 that nearly 1.7 million people have fled their homes due to the conflict and insecurity that occurred after the coup in Myanmar.
In the first half of 2023, humanitarian partners provided assistance to more than 1.8 million people, including 700,000 displaced people, the UNOCHA said.
However, the Sagaing region does not receive humanitarian aid from any international organizations on the ground, an aid worker told Than Lwin Times.
Some ethnic regions, including Sagaing, where the junta army and resistance forces are raging war, do not receive international humanitarian aid, and the conflicted-affected people are provided with donations from Myanmar citizens.
Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt said that he is trying to bring aid to all the displaced amid the spreading of the conflict.
According to an open letter sent by 440 international organizations, including Myanmar, to the member states of the United Nations General Assembly, the human rights and humanitarian crisis in Myanmar is getting worse.
The letter states that the regime continues to weaponize humanitarian aid by blocking, confiscating, and destroying life-saving aid to displaced communities.
