Mawlamyine, September (17)
The 10 Mon organizations involved in Mon politics have sent an open letter to New Mon State Party (NMSP) urging them not to hold any more political dialogues and saying that the peace talks being conducted by the military council are just a sham to gain legitimacy and find a political escape.
According to the open letter, the military council, which blatantly commits violence, is not recognized by international organizations, including the United Nations, and has also been excluded from ASEAN summits.
In addition to violating ASEAN’s five-point consensus and committing executions and arrests of innocent people, ASEAN agreements are not happening as expected in Myanmar’s affairs, the letter said.
These talks are just for show and an attempt to cause discord between resistance forces and ethnic armed groups, according to the open letter.
It added that the military council’s peace talks are based only on the 2008 constitutional framework, so they will not be able to support the emergence of a federal union with full equality and self-determination that ethnic groups want, and will only prolong the cycle of military slavery.
The 10 organizations involved in Mon politics believe that the New Mon Party is an organization that is fighting for the emergence of a Mon State with full self-determination in the future.
On the other hand, while Kachin, Chin, Karenni, Karen and Arakan are fighting fiercely for the end of the dictatorship to obtain the right to self-determination and equality, it is a good time for the New Mon State Party to fight together with the other EAOs.
The spokesperson did not immediately respond to Than Lwin Times seeking comment on whether NMSP plans to attend the second round of peace talks invited by the Military Council.
