Old woman died after being struck by junta’s heavy weapon in Nyaunglaybin District

According to the Karen National Union (KNU), an old local woman was killed when the military council fired mortar shell into the village in MoneTownship, Nyaunglaybin District.

On October 31 at around 8:00 pm, the Light Infantry Battalion 590 of the Military Council fired three mortar shells into Hteetolo village in ​​KNU’s Mone Township, hitting a 78-year-old woman living there, according to the statement.

The shrapnel of the weapon fired by the military council struck the old woman’s head and belly, and she died on the spot.

Currently, regime soldiers are often firing heavy weapons into villages in the KNU-held Mone Township, and local casualties have increased, according to the KNU.

In addition, on October 28, a weapon fired by the military council hit two local residents in the village of Ywasakaw, killing one.

According to KNU, almost 100,000 local residents fled from May to September owing to human rights violations committed by the junta forces in Brigade 3 area of KNU’s Nyaunglaybin District, with 16 killed and 21 injured.
