One civilian was killed, and six others wounded by junta shelling in KNU Brigade 3 of Nyaunglaybin District in the first week of October, reported the Karen National Union (KNU).
On October 6, the regime forces stationed at Thahtay Gon village in KNU’s Kyaukkyi Township launched three mortar shells into Taung Khin village, hitting a woman aged 50 and destroying a house.
Meanwhile, a woman was killed and the other woman was injured by the explosion in Bamar Nga Toe Khin village as the junta army fired an artillery shell into KNU’s Mone Township on October 4.
On the same day, a 70-year-old elderly woman was wounded in junta shelling in Shwe Kyin Township, said the KNU.
In addition, a mortar shell fired by the junta army based in Shwe Wah in Mone Township exploded in Nga Toe Khin village, injuring a nine-year-old child and a man on 9 October evening, according to the statement.
According to the KNU’s statement, the people in the KNU-administered areas have been subjected to casualties and damage to their homes on a daily basis due to the deliberate firing of heavy weapons by regime troops into the villages.
According to a report released by the Karen Peace Support Network (KPSN), 14 civilians were killed and nearly 70 were injured by junta shelling in KNU Brigade 3, Nyaunglaybin District, during the two years of the military coup, and more than 200,000 civilians were forced to flee the junta’s invasion and human rights violations.
