Eight civilians, including a one-and-half-year-old child, were injured when regime troops fired heavy weapons into the KNU’s Nyaunglaybin District amid no fighting, reported the KNU on 31 October.
The military council’s Kyaukkyi-based Infantry Battalion 264 launched two mortar shells into Taung Khin village around 3:30 p.m. on October 30.
The junta shelling injured 13-year-old Ma Ei Shwe Sin, 15-year-old Ma Thun Shwe Sin, Daw Thay Thay and U Ba Htwe Tin.
On the same day, regime troops deliberately fired 19 artillery shells into the villages of Pyin Ye Gyi, Gwaykon, Ye Phyu Kan, Nyaung Pin Gyi, and Mee Laung Kon in KNU’s Shwe Kyin Township.
The explosion injured four more residents, including one-and-a-half-year-old Maung Min Khant Zaw and three-year-old Ma Yoon Yoon from Ye Pyu Kan Village.
On October 28, more than 2,000 local people from five villages, including Kyaukkyi Pauk and Set Man Pauk, fled their homes due to junta shelling into KNU’s Mone Township, according to the KNU.
According to Karen civil society organizations, more than 200,000 local people have fled the conflicts and human rights violations by the junta army in KNU Brigade 3, Nyaunglaybin District, and they are in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
