On March 3, the National League for Democracy (NLD) announced the expulsion of four party members, including Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and Daw Sandar Min, who testified in cooperation with the military council.
The party’s central executive committee made the decision at a meeting held on March 2.
According to the statement, they were dismissed because they opposed the party’s stance, misused the party’s name, and were acting at the will of the military council for their own benefit.
The NLD said that those who were expelled from the party, U Phyo Min Thein, Daw Sandar Min, U Toe Lwin, and U Win Myint Aung, did not respect the will of the people and made false statements against Chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
According to the reports, those who ignore the wishes of the people and act against the party’s policies have been expelled from the party, and their statements and actions have absolutely nothing to do with the NLD party.
After the military coup, the army arrested union and state or regional ministers of the NLD party for various reasons and sentenced them to long prison terms, but U Phyo Min Thein, who testified for the military council, was only fined 100,000 Kyats.
U Phyo Min Thein and Daw Sandar Min, who were expelled from the NLD Party and its central executive committee, did not respond to Than Lwin Times’ requests for comments on that matter.
