Yangon, 17 July

The National League for Democracy party issued a statement that the message of Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Minister to the ASEAN meeting is not consistent with the policy of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi as a leader of their party.

The statement said that Daw aung San Suu Kyi will not make any decision in the absence of party’s central executive committee while she is under arrest because her political stance is based on the people and their expectation.

NLD party is suspicious of credibility of the message as Thai foreign minister could not talks with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi independently.

The party also recommended the ASEAN leader, however, should try for the release of political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, in line with the ‘5-Point Consensus of ASEAN’ to be able to express their opinions.

Foreign Affairs Minister of Thailand Don Pramudwinai  said to the first day meeting of ASEAN’s Foreign Ministers in Jakarta, Indonesia, that he visited Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on 9 July.

While local and international media organizations reported this news, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, the spokesperson of military council, confirmed that meeting, but he did not mention the details of meeting.
