The ethnic armed organizations that signed Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) seek to hold informal talks with the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) this month, the spokesperson of the NSPNC confirmed to Than Lwin Times.
The seven NCA-signatories participated in the peace talks held by the military council, and then they attempted to hold another informal meeting.
An informal negotiation team of seven NCA-signatories was formed to meet with the military council’s National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC).
The spokesperson of seven NCA-signatories, Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt, said that the negotiation team plans to hold informal talks in advance for the official discussions of the top leaders.
Col. Saw Kyaw Nyunt told Than Lwin Times that the informal talk is expected to be held in March, and whether or not the meeting will take place depends on the cooperation of both sides and the military council has not yet responded so far.
On December 7 last year, the seven NCA-signatories offered the military council to hold informal talk in order to reach a common stance and agreement acceptable to both sides, aiming to build sustainable peace. However, the NSPNC rejected the offer on December 9, although the military council acknowledged the offer.
Among the seven NCA-signatories trying to hold informal talk with the military council are New Mon State Party (NMSP), Arakan State Liberation Party (ALP), Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC), Lahu Democratic Union (LDU), Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO) and Restoration Council of Shan State ( RCSS) included.
