The National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) and the seven ethnic armed organizations that signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement will hold informal talks on March 28 and 29, the seven NCA-signatories told Than Lwin Times.
The seven NCA-signatories attended the military council’s peace talks three times and started trying for a further informal discussion last November; now, for the first time, they will hold informal talks in Nay Pyi Taw.
The group of informal talks of the seven NCA-signatories are comprised of seven committee members.
The seven NCA signatories’ spokesperson, Colonel Saw Kyaw Nyunt, stated that the informal meeting was intended to be an inclusive political discussion on issues that would be beneficial to all parties.
“Mainly, our regional and union peace issues will be discussed at the meeting. In addition, he said, we will discuss the initiatives and how to implement the establishment of a federal democratic union and a political meeting involving all stakeholders”.
Among the seven EAOs that will informally discuss the ceasefire with the military council are the New Mon State Party (NMSP), Arakan Liberation Party (ALP), Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC), Lahu Democratic Union (LDU) , Pa-O National Liberation Organization (PNLO) and Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS).
On December 7 of last year, the seven NCA-signatories requested the military council to host an informal dialogue aimed at building sustainable peace and reaching common attitudes and agreements acceptable to both sides.
Despite the military council’s acknowledgement of the request, the NSPNC refused to hold an informal meeting on December 9 due to the current political situation.
