Junta arrests more than 100 residents of Thayatchaung

The junta arbitrarily detained more than hundred residents of the Yange and Weyit villages in Thayatchaung Township, Thanintharyi Region, locals confirmed to Than Lwin Times.

After a junta column of over 100 troops stormed Yange village on April 23, and arrested more than 80 locals from their homes and then released about 30 of them in the evening.

According to local residents, the regime forces have arrested residents on suspicion of having links with the People’s Defense Forces in the killing of their allied militia members.

According to a Thayatchaung resident, the junta has notified the villagers that they must pay ransom money for captives to be released.

Most of the residents of Yange and Weyit villages are fleeing their homes as a large number of military forces are hunting down the locals.

According to local sources, the junta military column entered Yange village on February 7 and killed two villagers.
