Thayatchaung, April (26)
A column of junta troops enters village after village in Thanintharyi Region’s Thayatchaung Township, searching for and arresting locals, beating and torturing them, locals told Than Lwin Times.
Since April 23, junta troops have been making arrests of residents from surrounding villages, including Yange and Weyit in Thayatchaung Township.
On the 23rd and 24th of April, the junta soldiers arrested, beat, and interrogated over 100 residents of Yange and Weyit villages before releasing them.
On April 25, regime forces arrested five locals from Peintaw and Kazi villages with their hands tied behind their backs, a local said.
The five arrested men were ordinary civilians and just daily wage earners, but the regime arrested them on the grounds that they were involved in the mine explosion between Peintaaw and Kazi villages.
The junta soldiers took the detainees with their hands tied behind their backs, and the family members are concerned for their safety.
Residents are criticizing the military council’s arrest of people from villages in Thayatchaung Township as an act of instilling fear.
