As the rainy season approaches, more than 30,000 people fleeing the conflict in Tanintharyi Region are in urgent need of shelter and humanitarian aid, the officials of Dawna-Tanintharyi Refugee Support Group told Than Lwin Times.
Following the military coup, junta troops fired artillery shells into the villages in Tanintharyi Region, forcing over 30,000 residents to flee to the forests and evacuation camps.
Because the displaced people’s temporary tents built last year are damaged, they are having difficulty finding shelter for the upcoming rainy season.
The officials of Dawna-Tanintharyi Refugee Support Group have urged relevant organizations and the public to do as much as they can to help the refugees who are having trouble finding shelters.
In addition, the displaced people are in urgent need of humanitarian aid in addition to food and medical supplies for the upcoming rainy season.
The displaced people of Tanintharyi are living in forests and orchards by their own arrangement rather than in shelters because they are afraid of heavy weapons fire and air strikes by the junta army.
There are more than 30,000 IDPs in Dawei, Launglon, Palaw, and Tanintharyi townships of Tanintharyi Region, with the largest number in Palaw Township.
