More than 8,000 people fleeing the fighting in Tanintharyi Region are facing food insecurity, the Tanintharyi Displaced People Support Group told Than Lwin Times.
The displaced people are facing food shortages due to difficulty transporting food during the rainy season, high commodity prices, and fewer donors.
The IDPs face a severe food shortage as a result of the military council’s restrictions on food transportation, and invasion.
An official of the Dawna-Tanintharyi Displaced People Support Group said that it was difficult to travel during the rainy season to help the refugees who were facing various difficulties, and as time went by, food shortages worsened.
Children, pregnant women, and the elderly are at risk of malnutrition as displaced people become increasingly desperate for food.
Furthermore, the displaced individuals are suffering from seasonal flu and malaria in the rainy season and require medical attention.
There are more than 26,000 people who have fled the conflict in Tanintharyi Region and are in need of humanitarian assistance, the rescue workers told Than Lwin Times.
