Today, we will be checking the content of the photo titled, “The junta arrested the drug-addicted singer Byuhar in order to assist him in quitting drugs”.
This content has been disseminated via the fake Telegram accounts of Hmine Wei and Han Nyein Oo since May 24.
Military lobbyists have been spreading rumors online with photos, saying that there have been power outages due to the PDFs destroying the electric power poles with mines, and Byuhar, a singer who is addicted to drugs, has been arrested for defaming the authorities without blaming the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs). As a result, he was arrested and given treatment to stop using drugs”.
The Than Lwin Times looked into the post and found it to be misinformation.
In fact, on the night of May 23, singer Byuhar posted on his Facebook page denouncing the Minister of Electricity of the military council and the junta leader for not being able to provide electricity regularly. He was arrested a day later by the regime troops at his home in North Dagon Township.
According to reliable media outlets, Byuhar was arrested by the military regime and charged with sedition under Section 505 (a) after comparing the military council to the National League for Democracy (NLD) government in regard to the power outages.
