Mawlamyine, June (17)
The Mawlamyine District Police Office instructed all police stations and outposts in Mon State to tighten security and obtain first-hand information from an intelligence point of view in order to avoid being assaulted.
Than Lwin Times found that the reference letter of the Mon State Police Office dated June 12, which was sent to all township police stations, was signed by deputy police chief Zaw Win Aung on behalf of the district police chief.
The directive states that the forces working in offices, police stations, police outposts, checkpoints and security outposts must exercise security awareness to avoid sudden attacks.
In addition, troops are required to liaise with partner organizations and informants to learn about any activities of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs).
A departmental staff close to the military council told Than Lwin Times that the authorities have given this instruction based on the information that revolutionary forces will launch massive raids on battalions, military outposts, and departmental offices in the coming days.
Almost two and a half years after the military coup, Thaton, Kyaikto, Belin, Kyaikmaraw, southern Thanbyuzayet, and Ye in Mon State became strongholds of anti-regime forces.
There are at least 40 armed forces formed in those areas to topple the military, and they are attacking the military council’s departmental offices, military and administrative targets.
The military council relinquished three army camps in Thaton District and at least six police stations in Ye and Thanbyuzayet Townships, and local defense forces are active in some larger villages.
The allied resistance forces, including the KNLA, have controlled Mawlamyine, Mudon, Thanbyuzayet, Ye, Dawei, Myeik and No. 8 highway and announced that they are already active in those areas.
