200-strong military unit advances towards Tanintharyi

As a junta unit of 200 troops has advanced towards Banlamut village in Tanintharyi Township, and the Non-aligned Guerrilla Force is on red alert due to military tension.

On June 30, the regime troops set fire to three homes after invading Banlamut village and clashing with local resistance fighters.

The military column had been reinforced in recent days, and launched artillery shelling before the invasion, Non-aligned Guerilla force told Than Lwin Times.

The military column fired mortar rounds before leaving for Kanto Village on the morning of July 1.

More than 3,000 residents from five villages, including banlamut, Kanto, Yanpho and Nyaung Pin Kan, have fled junta invasion.

Due to the military tension, Tanintharyi PDF has been on red alert, and people are warned not to travel at night on the Myeik-Tanintharyi-Bokepyin Pyidaungsu Road.

In June, three-day of fighting in Banlamut and Thamee Hla villages killed military personnel including a combat medic and military officers.
