President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi received partial pardons of junta regime on 1 August for their prison sentence.
Myanmar military’s Myawady media reported that the president receives pardon for two cases and the state counsellor for five cases as per Article 401 (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
Before these pardons, President U Win Myint was sentenced 12 years for eight cases, and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was serving 33 years of imprisonment for 19 cases.
The partial pardons have reduced six years for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and four years for President U Win Myint.
The military also granted amnesty to 7,749 prisoners, and reduced death penalty to life imprisonments.
Amnesty was also given to 15 members of MNDAA, TNLA and SSPP, as well as persons related to these ethnic armed groups.
More than 20,000 were detained as political prisoners after the military coup, and they are suffering human rights violation in the prisoners, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners.
